Our Equality Objectives

At St Michael’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery, we are committed to ensuring that every member of our school community is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness. Rooted in our Catholic ethos and Gospel values, we strive to create a school environment where everyone feels safe, welcomed, valued and able to achieve their full potential.

In line with the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty, we have set the following Equality Objectives to help drive our ongoing commitment to inclusion, diversity and equality:

1. To promote equality of opportunity for all pupils

We aim to reduce barriers to learning so that every child—regardless of their background, ability, faith, gender, or family circumstances—can thrive academically, spiritually and socially. This includes ensuring that disadvantaged pupils, SEND pupils and EAL learners are fully supported to make strong progress.

2. To foster a respectful and inclusive school culture

We actively promote an environment where differences are celebrated, and discrimination, intolerance or prejudice have no place. Through our curriculum, assemblies and C.I.R.C.L.E values, pupils learn about respect, justice and compassion, and are encouraged to recognise the dignity of every person.

3. To raise awareness and understanding of diversity

We ensure that pupils engage with a broad and diverse curriculum that reflects different cultures, backgrounds and life experiences. We encourage pupils to value diversity in modern Britain and develop positive attitudes towards others.

4. To ensure fair access and participation

We monitor participation in school activities—such as enrichment, clubs, leadership roles and wider opportunities—to ensure equal access for all pupils. Where participation gaps exist, we work to remove barriers and encourage broader involvement.

5. To eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation

We take a proactive approach to preventing discriminatory behaviour and ensure that any incidents are dealt with swiftly, sensitively and in line with our policies. Safeguarding and wellbeing remain at the heart of our work.

6. To support staff development and awareness

We provide ongoing professional development so staff are equipped to understand equality duties, recognise unconscious bias, and meet the diverse needs of all pupils in their care. We strive to build a workforce that reflects our community and models inclusion.

Monitoring and Review

These objectives are reviewed and updated regularly by school leaders and governors to ensure they impact positively on pupils’ experiences and outcomes. Our progress is monitored through data analysis, pupil voice, staff feedback and ongoing evaluation of our policies and practices.
