Young Language Ambassadors

At St Michael’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery, we are proud to have Language Ambassadors who help promote the diversity, ethos and love of languages within our school community.

Our Language Ambassadors are bilingual and multilingual pupils who represent a wide range of cultures and languages. Their primary role is to ensure that all new children and families feel welcomed, included and part of our school family. They help new pupils settle in, feel safe, and know that they belong to the family of God. They also support the promotion of British Values and the English language across the school.

Using their language skills, our ambassadors help create a supportive environment where newly arrived pupils can develop their English more quickly, while still feeling valued and understood.

Each ambassador was chosen through a class‑based selection process, and they now serve as role models who promote the importance of language learning throughout the school.

At lunchtimes, you will often find our Language Ambassadors spending time with new pupils, helping them build friendships and grow in confidence. They play games in pupils’ home languages as well as in English, giving children a chance to relax while adjusting to learning English as an additional language.

Our ambassadors also support learning in the classroom and take part in special themed weeks, lead assemblies, assist during registration, and help show new parents and families around our school.

They play an important role in organising Language Days and work closely with staff to highlight the value of learning a foreign language in primary school.

Our Language Ambassadors are proud of their cultural heritage and the languages they speak. Their role allows them to celebrate who they are while helping others achieve their full potential in a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment.
